The West Coast All Class Reunion was held in Glendale, AZ, May 15th, 16th, 17th, 2009 nearby to the Cardinal’s football stadium (Super Bowl 43, Steelers vs Cardinals) and 25 miles west of the Phoenix airport. The Glendale area is fresh with new hotels, theatres, shopping, restaurants and of course Cabelos (Worlds Foremost Outfitter)
Arrived Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Friday afternoon, May 15th, throw the bags into Scottsdale Villa Mirage Resort, then drove on loop 101 arriving to WHS hospitality night at Gardunos Mexican/American Restaurant for Fridays get together.
Saturday, May 16th, 10 a.m. toured the Cardinal Football facility. An awesome Hi Tech Stadium were the playing field ‘turf’ is keep outside and brought inside two days before game time. Vision is unrestricted.
Remainder of Saturday was “do as you wanna!” starting with Happy Hour and snacks at Joan Tatzer Wagner Holiday Inn Express room, then onward to a home-owners dinners club for easy listening and dancing to entertainer Frank Carson Boyd, Joan Tatzer Wagner’s son-in-law. All had a blast dancing!
Sunday, May 17th, 12 noon Champagne Buffet at Gardunos Mexican/American Restaurant that accommodated us with a private room so that we can do all the yakking and drinking we want where we socialize, enjoyed fantastic food delicious servings and margaritas. The amazing football stadium looks like a giant silver UFO hovering near bye.
Monday’s day trip was to Sedona, AZ, via four lane divided highway, 75mph, passing beautiful red rocks, to 4,400’ elevation. Sedona’s entrance appears differently with wider entry roads, landscaping, new traffic circles and round abouts navigating the way into town. I visited Sedona airport, the Coffee Pot (Home of 101 Omelets), uptown, visitor center, free shuttle riding. A favorite the Midgley Bridge east of town, hiking trails, a stopping point for pictures.
Wednesday’s day trip was to Harold's Corral, Steelers Sports Bar, Cave Creek, AZ waterhole of choice with scrumptious food and drink. Go Steelers!
Thursday’s day trip was a revisit to ‘Grease Wood Flat’ for fantastic mountain drive, delicious Burgers. The property is acreage with old building on a barren mountainside with unique ornamental ironwork inside as well as the patio and cookout areas outside. Rusty western relics collected by the family over the years, such as branding irons and spurs, hang in scores from the rafters and walls.
The family's sister cowboy bar a Pioneer Blacksmith Family founded in 1909 one of the first to settle in Scottsdale, before the town's incorporation.

Road Sign Advertising
Our Friday hospitality night at the LaQuinta Inn was an outstanding event with classmates from classes 1943 thru 1972 of Wilkinsburg High School.
You wouldn’t believe the big surprise like a bolt from the blue when we bumped into Michael Sanders from the class of 1966 who went missing twenty year ago.
Mike told us about his aunts LaVerne Sanders ’46, Mildred Sanders ’43, Pearl Sanders ’45, Jean Sanders ’51 and his relatives passed on.

Trip To Wilkinsburg High School
Two Convention Vans each arrived at Wilkinsburg High School in October 2008 the old fashion way. The trip took us cross country, on the back roads that make an awesome ride. And you would not believe all conversation onboard the vans thanks to Carol Moore Schartner. The Parkway was closed for repaving (the parkway was out of service) and the van drivers got us their.
Picture fifty (50) WHS Alumni departing Monroeville’s Holiday Inn on Moss Blvd., to 22W, to Stroschein Road (by the Shopping Mall on Center Rd), then Pitcairn Rd south, Wall Ave, TriBoro Expy, 5th Ave, thru . East McKeesport, Wilmerding, North Versailles, East Pittsburgh, Turtle Creek, pasted the Super Wal-Mart (were the Greater Pittsburgh Drive In theater was) onto Rt 30, over the Westinghouse bridge, Chalfant, past Vincent Pizza Park, Forest Hills Park, onto Ardmore Blvd, passed 'Old Abe' the Lincoln statue, to Penn Ave, Center St. and Wallace Ave.
We were welcomed with individual tours of the school facilities by the student council classmates and the student adviser whom are at the top of their game. Our school gymnasiums, auditorium, chemistry and the new forensic labs are awesome. Students have access to wireless note book computers for their projects, research and the library has a fair size computer lab with twenty units available for instruction that looks wonderful.
The return trip was through Forest Hills, over Westinghouse bridge, past the old drive in (not their anymore), Boy does that brings back memories, north over a dozen back road streets to Northern Pike, Moss Blvd and Holiday Inn.
An awesome three day week-end. With the class of 1958 celebratation Friday get together at the Holiday Inn, tour of high school, dinner dance and Sunday buffet breakfast. With 196 people in attendance at Edgewood Country Club, I believe breaks the record set by the class of 1960.

Class of 1943 - 65th Year Reunion
Wilkinsburg High School Class of 1943 activities, communication with the classmates has stayed strong over the years and they manage to stay busy.
Worth mentioning was their original planning of having a big reunions every 5 years since our first - the 10th in 1953, and that we had been having a one day mini-reunion yearly since the 57th in 2000.
Last fall there was much discussion by the local reunion committee and comments from several regular out of town attendees of the past, on having a mid-week one day reunion at a local country club as was suggested at last summers reujilon, or to plan for a three day event.
It was an overwhelming vote to continue our tradition and plan for a three-day reunion.
Our 65th program began Friday evening, July 11, 2008 informal get to gether at the motel on Rodi Road in Penn Hills. Saturday, July 12 Forest Hills Recreation Center, 10:00 AM, Brunch, with food supplied by locals, 1:00 PM, Entertainment program and a catered dinner 5:00 PM until park closing. Sunday, July 13 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Formal brunch at Alcoma Country Club.
During idle hours between events there was socializing and reminiscing.
